Our Commitments
Through the SME Climate Hub, we commit to lowering our impact on the environment through authentic action, halving our emissions by 2030. In making the commitment, we have joined the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.
As a Business we are committed to achieving Net Zero by 2040, a target that has been submitted to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI).
SECR Statement
We measure and report our energy and carbon data across the whole of our operations, giving comprehensive data to authenticate the environmental impact of the Company. Our SECR statement is made on a wholly voluntary basis which underlines our “green” ambitions and responsible business practices.
Scope 1 emissions arise from the diesel used in company vehicles. Scope 3 emissions relate to emissions from the transportation of employees for business related activities in vehicles owned or operated by third parties.
The carbon intensity ratio we have chosen is the best reflection of our total activity across all our operations and is based on the total turnover of the Company.
In order to calculate the carbon emissions, we have used the emission factors from the UK Government’s GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting 2022. One of the requirements of the SECR regulations is to report our total UK energy use in kilowatt hours (kWh); for this we have used the 2022 conversion factors referred to above. The Scope 1 emissions reported are for all operational facilities under our control and for which we have direct management responsibility.
We have installed LED lights throughout our premises to improve energy efficiency. In addition, we continue to monitor the latest improvements in electric vehicle technology, and the feasibility of transitioning to a greener fleet. Range restriction is a key issue that we are facing and explains the lack of reduction in Scope 1 emissions. Despite this, we have a positive outlook and are keen to invest in electric vehicles as technology improves. As well as this, we have designed a bespoke app where customers can view products through an e-catalogue, ultimately reducing paper consumption used in the billing process.

Added to this is our commitment is to undertake perimeter litter picking throughout the year.
Supporting the Local Community
BIS proudly sponsors Tredegar Netball Club who celebrate their 20th year.
Tredegar Netball Club is a non-profit organisation who rely on support from local businesses and volunteering.
At Tredegar Netball Club a selection of young leaders and junior coaches are nurtured and developed to support the club, eventually becoming fully-fledged coaches. Their passion and participation are essential for the longevity of the club, without them the club could not continue.
BIS are proud to provide full training/coaching kits for all the young leaders and junior coaches.
Female coaches and female leadership are a critical component for girls and young women’s empowerment through sport for development and BIS are proud to part of this.
Supporting Local Charities
We continue to support Hospice of the Valleys who are Based in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. The Hospice do a fabulous job and rely on donations of all kinds to help provide their amazing services.
Hospice of the Valleys provide Specialist Palliative Care services, including community nursing, an in-reach service to community hospitals, bereavement support, physiotherapy, welfare rights advice, complementary therapy, emotional support, and a dedicated service for patients living with a dementia diagnosis.
To help support the Hospice BIS have held Go yellow days, Bake off Competitions, Charity Shop Donations days, Dog Walks, and most recently “The BIS Cycle Challenge” which consists of Cycling London to Brussels.
The BIS Cycle Challenge
A team of 8 colleagues took on the rigorous challenge of riding from London to Brussels over 3 days on 5th to 7th June 2024. During this time, the team cycled 243 miles in an impressive 23 hours and 50 minutes in the saddle.
Most of the team are non-cyclists and training provided to be hard, but they were determined to complete the challenge with the support of the entire team at BIS.
Our aim was to raise £10,000 which will fund all services in the hospice for 2 days, we actually surpassed this with a total of £11,680 taking our overall total to over £23,000 raised for the charity.
